Effects
The gap between wealthy and poor continued to widen with upper-class women benefiting from the freedom of fashion and the introduction of new household appliances. Whereas, working-class women had to work harder to try and support their families as their husbands could have died during the war.
The Personal Effects
Women who were single found it difficult to find a partner in the post war period. During this time women were expected to marry young and have children but as 416 000 Australian men enlisted and 60000 were killed, it was difficult for women to find a partner.
Employment and Education
Education started to become more important for women as they needed to support their families. Nursing and teaching was an important area for women to get employment in as they were the areas where employment opportunities were. Once the men returned, they took on their jobs again but sadly many didn’t return which meant women took those jobs.
