Conscription
Most women didn’t want conscription to come into place as this would mean their loved ones would have to go to war. However, there were certain women that agreed with conscription. Women that belonged to political parties other than the Labour Party or were involved in business organisations agreed with conscription. Returning soldiers also agreed with this so they could have influenced women to vote for conscription.
If conscription was agreed to, this would mean the government would be able to select who went to war and not give the soldiers the freedom to make the decision. The reason why the government wanted conscription to be voted in was because voluntary recruitment had decreased and they wanted to sustain their good reputation.
